About Agnigarh:
‘ The word Agnigarh means a residence built amidst fire. As per the Hindu mythology, this fortress was built by Bansura who was a very powerful asura/demon and everyone was afraid of him. He constructed this building in order to keep his daughter Usha in isolation so that she could not meet her beloved Aniruddha.
The place is well known for the mythological romance associated with it. It is great place to go. Agnigarh is mainly a park on a hillock along the banks of river Brahamputra. From the top of this park one can have a grand view of river as well Tezpur city on the other side. Agnigarh is a hillock, which is located at Tezpur in the state of Assam. This historical site is also known by the name ‘love site of North east India. Getting to the Agnigarh hill is not difficult, as it is situated about 5 km away from the city of Tezpur.
Present day Agnigarh is a hill on the banks of the Brahmaputra which is one of the big tourist attractions in Tezpur. There is a tall viewing platform from where the entire Tezpur town can be seen. We can also see the Kalia- Bhumura bridge which shines like a beautiful necklace over the vast Brahmaputra river. The name itself is derived from the words ‘Agni’ and ‘garh’in Sanskrit.
