About Rumtek Monastery:

Rumtek Monastery belongs to the Kagyu sect and which was first built in the 12th century but was left to ruin so during 1960 Gyalwa Karmapa who became the 16th Karmapa of the center reestablished it.

The monastery is not only a treasure house encompassing unique murals, hand painting, and 1001 miniature Gold sculptures, but also has many vantage points overlooking the city of Gangtok. It is one of the Sikkim tourist places which have plenty of ways to intrigue the visitors.

Rumtek Monastery is famous for the Golden stupa located in the new room of Karma Shri Nalanda Institute. The Golden Stupa is the prime highlight of Rumtek Monastery as it contains the holy remains and relics of his Holiness the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje.
