About Sri Markandeya temple:
One of the ancient temples of Rajahmundry, Sri Markandeya Swamy Temple, is located in Chanda Satram or Satram-Choultry. The pilgrim center was initially mistaken as the ruins of a mosque, but later archeological surveys found out the remnants as part of an ancient Shiva temple.
The temple was rebuilt in 1818 by Gundu Sobhanadrihwara Rao and the entrance to the temple starts from Gundu vari Street which was his former residence. A holy destination that has immense historical as well as religious significance, this temple has numerous legends attached to it and is frequented by pilgrims from all over the country.
