Udayagiri Fort

About Udayagiri Fort:

The Udayagiri fort was constructed by Langula Gajapati, the chieftan to Gajapatis of Orissa, around 14th century. Later, it came under the rule of Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara. The fort was inaccessible on most sides and could only be penetrated by a jungle route. Therefore, it took months for Krishnadevaraya to siege the fort. After Vijayanagara Empire, it came under the rule of Golconda chieftans. It then came under the rule of Nawabs of Arcot.
The hills boast of natural beauty as it is covered with lush vegetation and has beautiful waterfalls. Many flora of medicinal value are found here. Therefore, it is called Sanjeeva hills by many. The ruined fort is attracts thousands of tourists every year. The many structures of religious importance present on the hills add to the beauty of the place.
