About Indian Naval Aviation Museum:

Inaugurated in 1998, this museum is one of only two military museums in India. In fact, it is the only Naval aviation museum in all of Asia. The museum displays a number of aircraft that were used by the indian navy throughout its history. These are displayed outside in the museum’s open air gallery.

The interior of the museum is designed to look like the interior of a naval aircraft carrier the INS Viraat and has a number of interesting galleries displaying naval equipment, prominent battles, a simulation room and an extensive granite plaque paying tribute to those brave souls who gave their lives in service of their country.

The museum is open to public from Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30am to 5.30pm. The museum does, however, remain closed on National Holidays. A day at the museum is a pleasant outing at any time of the year.
Upon entering the museums premises, the first sentinel is the bulking form of the Super Constellation, a craft originally used as a passenger plane by the Indian Airlines. It was later handed over to the Air Force as a transport vehicle, who then gave it over to the Indian Navy. It was eventually decommissioned but has remained within the Naval purview. The outdoor gallery has an impressive display of 13 aircrafts, both planes and helicopters as well as a display of aircraft engines and parts. The thirteen crafts on display are

Short Sealand Mk 2 (IN 106), Fairey Firefly TT Mk1 (IN 112), HAL HT-2 (BX 748), Hawker Sea Hawk FGA Mk 100 (IN 234), Breguet Alizé (IN 202), de Havilland Dove (IN 124), HAL Chetak (IN 475), Hughes Hu-300 (IN 083), Westland Sea King Mk 42 (IN 505), Lockheed L1049G Super Constellation (IN 315), Kamov Ka-25 (IN 573), Sea Harrier FRS.51 (IN 621).

About Yana Caves:

Yana caves is one of the finest creations of nature, located in Kumta in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, this cave is both alluring and mysterious. Pitch black in color, the cave is formed of karst limestone, well-known for its unique structure and pattern of formation. Located right in the middle of forests in Kumta, the marvelous rocks stand tall at a height of 390 ft. The humongous rocks have two distinct peaks, the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara which is the tallest peak, and the Mohini Shikhara. Yana village enjoys quite a rocky landscape owing to the majestic Western Ghats. The contrast of the magnificent black caves against the lush green trees in the forest is an absolute delight to travelers and tourists.

The region around the Yana caves is gorgeous, complete with mountains, waterfalls, and one of a kind rock formation. If you love adventure and enjoy thrilling experiences, take a tour to Yana caves and you will fall short of words to describe the whole feeling. The most striking feature is obviously the black color, however, if noticed closely the amazing forces that created such a beautiful, natural structure is equally awe-inspiring.

The history of Yana caves has storing references to Hindu mythology. The story states that a demon king called Bhasmasura was given a boon by Lord Shiva, that he could burn anyone to death by placing his hand on their head. This boon backfired and the gods started worrying about the evolving power of the demon. Lord Vishnu then forged a plan, he transformed into Mohini, a seductress, and finally tricked Bhasmasura to end his own life by placing his hand on his own head. Due to this whole event, the caves turned black from the ashes of Bhasmasura.

Yana Caves is a complete treat, mesmerizing geography combined with an amazing history. Do not miss this extraordinary spot while visiting Karnataka.

About Mahabaleshwar Temple Gokarna:

The Mahabaleshwar Temple in Gokarna enshrines the Aatmalinga or Pranalinga of Lord Shiva. This is one of the best places to visit in Gokarna. This temple is regarded second only to the Kashi Vishwanatha Temple in Varanasi and is often called the Dakshina Kashi. The temple is said to be one of the seven sacred Muktikshetras and is visited by Hindus to perform the death rites for their ancestors.

According to the legend, Ravana performed a severe penance to Lord Shiva to possess his powerful Atmalinga. Pleased by his penance, Shiva gives him the Atmalinga. He had been instructed by Lord Shiva not to keep the Atmalinga on the ground, since it would be fixed wherever it touched ground. Ravana was stopped here for his evening prayers while going back to Lanka. In order to avoid Ravana misusing the Atmalinga, Lord Ganesh was sent by devatas in the avatar of a boy offered to hold the Atmalinga and then keep it on the ground. Eventually, the Aatmalinga was installed at Gokarna. In spite of Ravana trying hard with mighty power or Maha Bala, the Shivalingam stayed here fixed in the place. Ravana, in extreme anger, tried to pull out the Atmalinga from the ground, breaking it in the process. These pieces then resulted in the establishment of various temples in Karnataka.

This temple is very ancient and enhanced through several centuries. This temple represents the Dravidian architectural style and has been constructed using white granite stones. The six feet tall Shivalinga is enclosed in a square Saligrama Peetham. The 1500 years old carved stone image of Lord Shiva in the standing position, is also worshipped here. Vinayaka, Chandikeswara, Aadi Gokarneswara, and Dattatreya shrines are also present here. There is a shrine of Taamragowri behind the sanctum. The Koti theertham is the most sacred theertham of the place.

In this temple, devotees can enter the sanctum sanctorum, touch Aatmalinga, and can perform Abhisheka with their own hands. Before visiting this temple, tourists take a dip in the holy water of the Arabian Sea.

Shivarathri is the main festival celebrated here and tourists from all over South India visit the temple on this auspicious occasion.
