The Mattancherry Palace is a...
The Mattancherry Palace is a palace popularly known as the Dutch Palace, in Mattancherry, Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala which features Kerala murals depicting portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. The palace was included in the “tentative list” of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Palace was built and gifted by the Portuguese as a present to the king of Cochin around 1545.[1] The palace was built to appease the king after they plundered a temple nearby. The landing of Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer at Kappad in 1498 was welcomed by the Kochi rulers. They were given exclusive right to construct factories. The Portuguese repulsed the repeated attacks of the Zamorians and the Cochin Rajas practically became vassals of the Portuguese. The influence of the Portuguese were supplanted by the Dutch and they took over Mattancherry in 1663. Each room in the palace is constructed with lot of designs and architecture. A good place which is well maintained by ASI.

hajo, Assam, India
Historically, this is one of...
Historically, this is one of the most important temples in India. And therefore, apart from the religious pilgrimage, history and archeology enthusiasts also often visit this beautiful temple of Shiva. Hajo in Assam houses a number of religious places for the Hindus, the Buddhists and the Muslims. One such sacred space, for the Hindus is the Kedareswara temple in Hajo.
Located atop the Madanachala Hill in Hajo, this Shiva temple is regarded as one of the oldest temples in the Indian subcontinent. This temple enshrines a huge Shivalinga, made of stone, which is popularly known as the Svayambhu Linga. It is also referred to as the Ardhanariswara form of Lord Shiva. This Shivalinga is always covered by a huge metal bowl. Since Hajo is located at the sub tropical climate zone, the summer is severe in this part of the city. Therefore, it is not prudent to visit the temple in the late summer months. Similarly, during the monsoon, heat combined with humidity, and incessant rains make it difficult for the tourists to enjoy their trip.

Undavalli Caves leave one in...
Undavalli Caves leave one in amazement and awe because of its marvellous design. From the outside, it looks like rows of cells arranged in different positions which arouse curiosity. There are three levels in the cave. The lower level resembles the Jain abode with many chambers and Thirthankara Sculptures. The second level has as the statue of reclining God whose identity cannot be found out.
However, locale believes the statue is of Lord Vishnu. The sculptures of lions and elephants on the walls add to the beauty of the attraction. When you reach the top of the cave, you get a breath-taking view of the lush green surroundings and hills. You can also see the Krishna River flowing behind the caves. Tourists can even take the boat ride on the river enjoying the natural beauty.
The caves are 29 metres long and 16 metres wide. Each floor has different heights. The first floor is a low-pillared hall with eight pillars and seven door openings. The first storey has shrines dedicated Trimurti- Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma, each with a pillared hall in the front.

Vadakkunathan! This is the name...
Vadakkunathan! This is the name which has been given to Lord Shiva in the city of Thrissur, Kerala, India. The Vadakkunnathan temple is the first temple which was created by Lord Parasurama. The temple located at the heart of the city of Thrissur is enclosed by colossal walls of stone under an area of around eight acres. The four directions, East, West, North and South in the temple have been indicated by four Gopurams inside the temple premises. In the centre of the temple there is multi shrined complex, besides the four Gopurams. The three key shrines of the temple have been dedicated to the Vadakkunatham or Lord Shiva, Lord Rama and Shankaranarayana. Lord Shiva who in the hunter form called as the Vettekkaran, besides other places is also worshipped in the Nalambalam area.
As per the archaeological findings, Vadakkunathan temple is one of the oldest temples of the Southern India and is the largest temple of the Kerala which is dedicated to worshipping Lord Shiva. This religious place is an extraordinary example of the classical Kerala style of architecture featuring outstanding murals of the 17th century echoing the story of Mahabharata. The wood carved vignettes are displayed in the Koothambalam and shrines. One interesting thing about the temple is that it is believed to be the place where Tipu Sultan camped, though this fact has been associated with many disputes and many historians have not supported the idea.

Mawsmai Cave is at a...
Mawsmai Cave is at a stone’s throw away from Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and 57 km from Shillong in the little village of Mawsmai. There is a network of underground caves which is full of beautiful and sometimes scary stalactites and stalagmites. It costs you INR 20 as the entry fee. There is a short hike through the forest to reach the main entrance of the cave. This hike takes you through some stunning views of the valley that is full of waterfalls during monsoons, and an occasional café playing local Khasi music.
Among all the caves in the region, Mawsmai Cave is delightful without a doubt. There is a lot of vegetation inside the cavern to grab one’s eye. The length of the cave is only 150 meters which isn’t the longest in contrast to different caves in the region yet it most likely gives you glimpse into life in the underground. Found only 6 km away from the core of Cherrapunjee, Mawsmai cave is an amazing cave in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya.
