About Talpagiri Ranganatha Swamy Temple:

The Sri Ranganthaswami Temple in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ranganatha a resting form of Lord Vishnu. This temple, also called Talpagiri Ranganathaswami temple or Ranganayakulu is one of the oldest temples in Nellore. It is located on the banks of the Penna River and is believed to have been constructed in the 12th century.

According to legend, Lord Maha Vishnua wanted to visit Bhooloka with his wife, the goddess Sridevi, so he asked Adisesha to be the place of his residence during his stay in Bhooloka. By obeying his master’s order, Adisesha took the form of a mountain at this place. Therefore, the place was named “Talpagiri Kshetram”. It is believed that when Sage Kashyapa performed Poundarika Yagna on Ekadasi day, the Lord appeared and blessed him.
