About Kanigiri Fort:

Kanigiri Fort, also known as Durgam Fort, is located in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh state. It was once called Kanakagiri means golden konda. Its full name is Kanakagiri Vijaya Marthanda Durga. The fort is perched on the Kannigiri Hill.

Kannigiri used to be a parallel kingdom when the poet and the king Nne Choddu rules Udayagiri in Nellore. According to the legends, the fifth king of this dynasty during 13th century ruled over Kanigiri by defeating king Choddu’s grandchildren. At that time, Sri Krishna Devarayas ruled over the Kanigiri Fort.
