About Neendoor Subrahmanya Swami Temple:
Neendoor Subrahmanya Swami Temple is an ancient lord Murugan temple is located in Neendoor, Kottayam district (Kerala,India). It has brought glory and fame to the place. Myths have it that the Pandavas and the sage Vyasa had worshipped at this temple.
Neendoor Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is a typical Kerala temple. It is built out of Laterite stone, terracotta tiles and teak woods, which are available abundantly in this region. This is a vast temple having a rectangular shape and porch entrance all together looking like a royal traditional house of those seen in Kerala State. The main deity is Lord Subrahmanya Swamy and he is seen in the sanctum sanctorum in a standing position with his weapon named Vel.
Subrahmanya is also known as Karthikeya apart from Dravidian regions. In Kerala he is known as the Subrahmanya Swamy. His other names are Mail Vahanan, Murugan, Senthil, Velan, Kandan, Kadamban, Arumugam and Shanmugam. He is the God’s army and a symbol of victory. His bird is the peacock and his weapon is called as Vel.
Neendoor Subrahmanya Swami Temple hosts the arattu festival celebrated on a grand scale on the Medashasti day in April-May every year.
