Penukonda Fort

About Penukonda Fort:

This is a fort built on a hill. It was the refuge and capital of the Vijayanagar kings after the battle of Talikota. It is a bit difficult to find, suggest to ask the locals fro exact directions and to ask multiple people.

It has a number of buildings and even villages inside the fort walls. The top of the fort is on the top of the hill and is not navigable by car. One needs to walk about 5 to 6 km to reach the hilltop. There are amazing views from this tower.Penukonda was once filled in as the second capital of Vijayanagar Kingdom after the fall of Hampi and was before called as Ghanagiri or Ghanadri. As indicated by the engravings, the Penukonda state was talented by the King Bukka-I to his child Virupanna.
