About Kedareswara Temple Hajo:

Historically, this is one of the most important temples in India. And therefore, apart from the religious pilgrimage, history and archeology enthusiasts also often visit this beautiful temple of Shiva. Hajo in Assam houses a number of religious places for the Hindus, the Buddhists and the Muslims. One such sacred space, for the Hindus is the Kedareswara temple in Hajo.

Located atop the Madanachala Hill in Hajo, this Shiva temple is regarded as one of the oldest temples in the Indian subcontinent. This temple enshrines a huge Shivalinga, made of stone, which is popularly known as the Svayambhu Linga. It is also referred to as the Ardhanariswara form of Lord Shiva. This Shivalinga is always covered by a huge metal bowl. Since Hajo is located at the sub tropical climate zone, the summer is severe in this part of the city. Therefore, it is not prudent to visit the temple in the late summer months. Similarly, during the monsoon, heat combined with humidity, and incessant rains  make it difficult for the tourists to enjoy their trip.
