This goddess is also known by many other names such as Ragnya Bhagwati, Ragnya Devi, Rajni and Maharagya Devi. Besides, this is one of the most revered sites in Kashmir, especially for Kashmiri Pandits. The annual festival held at the temple is the Mela Kheer Bhawani which is the time when the devotees of the Goddess Mata Kheer Bhawani gather here and fast on the eighth day of the full moon. The festival is held during the month of May/ June.

It has been reported that of late the water in the Kheer Bhawani spring has again turned red. This change of colour in the water, according to locals, has taken place during the past few days and has happened after a very long time.
